Medical treatment for drug dependency
The Young Peoples Substance Misuse Service treats children and
young people under the age of 18 who are addicted/dependant to drugs
and/or alcohol and are seeking help for the complex problems associated
with their dependency. These may include severe withdrawal symptoms,
and health and mental health issues. If you are dependant on substances
you may find you suffer from some of the following symptoms:
- You use daily
- You get withdrawal symptoms
- You get relief (feel better) from withdrawal symptoms when you
use
- You are building up a tolerance to the substance, eg needing
to take more to get the same effect
- You feel you have lost control of your drug use
- Your life and activities are focused around your drug use
The health team offers confidential, comprehensive assessments,
treatment packages and reviews, tailored to the needs of the individual,
which include detoxification, psychological therapies, family work
and regular support. This is done with the full understanding,
co-operation and agreement of the young person. The support and
involvement from parents, families and responsible others is encouraged.
