This is a Specialist Hidden Harm Family Therapy Project. A funding opportunity was identified via Gloucester City Council, Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, Anti-Social Behaviour Unit. This unit has recently been selected to be a national pilot for the Home Office Family Intervention Project (FIP) - a national scheme to provide a spectrum of approaches with problematic families. The Home Office announced that there was additional support funding available to the project and a grant of £10k has been awarded to provide family therapy to reduce substance misuse related anti social behaviour. Robust monitoring and evaluation systems will be put in place to demonstrate change in lives and reduction of the families' antisocial behaviour. We hope to fully engage between 5-8 families who are living in within Gloucester city council catchment areas.

Our Aim will be:

  • Provide consultations where a parent or another family member has been identified as having problematic substance misuse, which is causing harm to children/young people in the family.
  • A systemic family psychotherapy clinic will operate for 4 hours, Wednesday morning once a fortnight commencing 7th February 2007. It will be multi-disciplinary/agency enabling a holistic approach to address the complexity of the presenting difficulties these families bring.
  • An outreach systemic family psychotherapy service will operate for 4 hours, Wednesday afternoon a fortnight commencing 7th February 2007. This service will target hard-to-reach families with problematic substance misuse.
  • Provide a broad psychotherapeutic framework for complex cases which involve or affect all family members to a greater or lesser degree and involve or affect the community in which the family lives. The systemic approach will encompass knowledge of the multiple levels of influence. Emphasis will be placed on partnership working with a wide range of services and agencies which families might already be accessing.

The first available opportunity for families to be seen will be on Wednesday 7th February 2007.
