GHB

aka: G.B.H., Grievous Bodily Harm, Liquid X, Liquid E, Gamma-0, Liquid Ecstasy

What is it?

GHB stands for Gamma-hydroxybutyrate. It is used in some countries as a mild anaesthetic. It’s usually sold in small bottles as a colourless, odourless liquid that has a slight salty taste. It also comes in powder or capsule form. A capful or teaspoonful is the usual dose

What are the effects?

  • You feel the effects from 5 minutes to 1 hours after taking it.
  • The effects last a varied amount of time, some people have reported the effects lasting a day or more.
  • It makes you feel euphoric, sensual and uninhibited.
  • You get a sense of well-being and increased confidence.
  • If you take too much, you can feel sick and dizzy, your speech can slur and you lose your co-ordination.
  • High doses can knock you out for a few hours and cause fits and seizure.

What are the risks?

  • You can overdose, and overdoses can kill.
  • You can become psychologically addicted to it.
  • It can be fatal when mixed with alcohol and other drugs.
  • It’s one drug that is linked to drink spiking and ‘date rape’ due to the fact that you can’t smell it, and it is almost tasteless

How much is it?

It is about £15 for a small bottle.

GHB is now included within the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

GHB is now a Class C drug.

Staying Safe

  1. Be careful that you do not get your drink spiked with GHB as it is used as a date rape drug.
  2. Do not mix with other depressants especially alcohol.
  3. Remember safe sex.
  4. Do not when you are on your own and make sure someone stays sober.
  5. Only use a small amount as there is a risk of overdose.
